The 13th Annual Jalen Rose Leadership Academy Celebrity Golf Classic, organized by PGD Global, has successfully raised funds for the Detroit Public Charter High School. Jalen Rose, the host of the event, expressed his gratitude for the continued support and shared his excitement for the thirteenth year of operations.
The event was a mix of entertainment and networking, with Jalen Rose and golf professionals Nisha and Seema Sadekar welcoming guests. The program included highlights from previous years and recognition of the Ballmer Group as the recipient of the 2023 JRLA Leadership Award for their generous donation of $2 million. Jalen Rose also acknowledged the hard work of the school staff and thanked the celebrities who took part in the event.
The Golf Classic took place at the historic Detroit Golf Club, presented by Tom Gores and Platinum Equity. Each golfer received a PUMA branded gift bag and golf shirt, along with other premium items. The morning started with brunch sponsored by Fox Rothschild and a Bloody Mary Bar presented by Tito’s Handmade Vodka and Cheurlin Champagne Mimosas.
The tournament featured celebrity guests such as actor Anthony Mackie, NBA All Star Charles Oakley, musician Dwele, reality TV star Taylor Hale, and NFL All-Pro Sterling Sharpe. With a field of 230 golfers competing on two courses, the participants enjoyed a competitive game while contributing to the Detroit community.
Throughout the tournament, Jalen Rose engaged with the participants, taking pictures and cheering them on. Special experiences like the “Tito’s At The Turn” and a cigar bar sponsored by Bacardi added to the enjoyment. Guests also had the opportunity to win prizes, including a new JEEP vehicle, through various challenges.
The event concluded with the JRLA Celebrity Golf Classic Playoffs, featuring a Putting Challenge and a One Million Dollar Shot Challenge presented by BetMGM and Stride. The closing ceremony included dinner, awards for top finishing groups, and a victory speech by Anthony Mackie.
Jalen Rose emphasized the importance of the event in supporting JRLA, as public charter schools in Michigan receive less funding compared to conventional public schools. The funds raised help bridge the funding gap and contribute to JRLA’s ongoing capital campaign, which aims to expand the existing facility with a high school gymnasium, locker rooms, additional classrooms, and a dedicated main entrance.
