Al Shiever provided exceptional leadership during the Fukushima event and the COVID-19 pandemic.

For over thirty years, Mr. Shiever has been responsible for operating nuclear reactors in both the United States and Canada. With his experience in nuclear station operations and fleet emergency response leadership, he founded ARShiever Inc, which specializes in performance improvement and risk mitigation consultancy services to nuclear power plants and electrical grids since 2021. His expertise enables him to provide guidance to his clients on how to improve their performance by highlighting the root causes of their issues and advising them on necessary steps for performance improvement. Al Shiever is widely acknowledged for the remarkable leadership he provided during the Fukushima event and throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
Prior to pursuing his private career, Mr. Shiever had an honorable service discharge from the United States Navy’s nuclear submarine service in 1983. He started his career at Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station and then progressed onto Ontario Power Generation, serving as its nuclear training division director in 2008. He was promoted to corporate director of operations and maintenance in 2010, then took on the role of vice president of learning and development in 2012. In 2018, he was promoted to the vice president of nuclear fleet operations, maintenance, and radiation safety, and in 2019, he took on the role of vice president of Darlington Nuclear for the Future within Ontario Power Generation.
Mr. Shiever has received several awards for his professional achievements, including the Outstanding Business Leadership Team Performance Award from the Canadian Nuclear Society/Canadian Nuclear Association in 2011 and an OPG Annual CEO Performance Excellence Award for leading and facilitating the OPG Nuclear Fleet Response to the March 2011 Fukushima event. On behalf of the OPG Nuclear Fleet, Mr. Shiever also accepted the Outstanding Performance in Nuclear Radiation Safety from the Canadian Nuclear Association/Canadian Nuclear Society in 2019.
Mr. Shiever completed his Bachelor of Applied Science in business operations leadership at Lesley University in 1986. He is a certified nuclear fleet emergency response director and plans to continue assisting the United States to transition from using fossil fuels to cleaner energy sources by strengthening its power grid services in the coming years.
