Col. Sprouse had a successful and long career spanning 30 years with the U.S. Air Force from 1972 to 2002.

Col. Sprouse achieved a long and successful military career in the U.S. Air Force over a 30-year span from 1972 to 2002. Following his retirement, he joined PE Systems Inc. in Dayton, Ohio, and spent the next 13 years working in various roles including senior logistics manager and vice president of the services group. At Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio, Col. Sprouse served as a functional contract team lead responsible for providing advisory and assistance services to the Aeronautical Systems Center.
During his tenure with the U.S. Air Force, Col. Sprouse held critical roles that were essential in handling nationally significant and high-visibility intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance missions as well as critical command and control support for the Strategic Air Command and the National Airborne Operations Center. He worked extensively in aircraft maintenance and logistics, managing 33 types of aircraft with 13 different assignments. Further, he served twice as squadron commander, deputy commander for maintenance, and two-time deputy logistics group commander. At the Air Force Materiel Command, he was the chief of inspection and assessments division during his retirement and was involved in compliance inspections. Col. Sprouse was also responsible for logistics support for all special mission aircraft for HQ Air Combat Command and was deployed twice to support Desert Fox and Desert Thunder Operations.
Col. Sprouse is a devout member of the Catholic Parish Saint Francis of Assisi in Centerville, Ohio. For over five years, he volunteered his services to the parish financial council and served in various advisory capacities for more than 20 years. Additionally, he served as a lay minister and spearheaded numerous fundraising events that successfully raised more than $100,000 to improve the church building. Col. Sprouse also served in several roles for the Knights of Columbus Fraternal Organization and is a life member of the American Legion.
Col. Sprouse joined the U.S. Army Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) in 1968 at South Dakota State University (SDSU) and transitioned to the U.S. Air Force ROTC in 1970 with a two-year Air Force scholarship. In 1972, he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Education in agricultural education from SDSU, and in 1980, he completed a Master’s degree in systems management from the University of Southern California. Col. Sprouse participated in additional coursework in strategic logistics management, environmental risk communications, and other related areas and obtained certifications in acquisition management and program management.
Col. Sprouse is a life member of various professional organizations, including the Military Officers Association of America, the Air and Space Forces Association, and the Air Force Logistics Officer Association
Col. Sprouse received a Leadership Award from PE Systems Inc. in 2006. He also earned several medals, including the Legion of Merit, the Meritorious Service Medal with six devices, the Air Force Commendation Medal with two devices, and the Air Force Achievement Medal. In 2005, Col. Sprouse was recognized as a key member for his valuable contributions to the Counter Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and Explosives focus team during the first-ever integrated summit hosted by the Air Force Materiel Command and Air Force Space Command.
