“Field personnel — especially emergency responders — need clear, strong, and reliable communications at all times, wherever they are located at any given moment. We’re proud to have played a role in executing an important system upgrade that delivers this vital capability.”

CPS Energy worked collaboratively with Mission Critical Partners to complete the Alamo Area Regional Radio System (AARRS). The upgrade project replaced three obsolete land mobile radio (LMR) systems with a new Project 25 (P25) Phase 2 LMR system. This move was necessary to ensure reliable, strong, and clear communication between field personnel — especially emergency responders — wherever they are located.
The three legacy systems that were replaced suffered from inadequate coverage, inadequate capacity, and inadequate reliability. The new system delivers more than just the minimum threshold for public-safety agencies, offering better coverage and a more robust network infrastructure. The positive result of the system upgrade is a region-owned and operated P25, Phase 2 system that offers interoperable communications and improved efficiency.
MCP assisted CPS Energy throughout the project, lending support in the procurement, testing, and implementation of the upgraded system. The support provided by MCP included a comprehensive assessment of the legacy system, development of technical specifications for the new system, oversight of vendor equipment installation, as well as testing and implementation of the new LMR system.
The completion of the upgrade to the land mobile radio system has resulted in a more robust and efficient communication network infrastructure. The upgraded system will help the community of San Antonio improve public safety outcomes and better serve the community in times of critical need.
