She underwent dermatology training at the University of Missouri, Columbia, and Stanford University. She holds certification from the American Board of Dermatology since 1971.
Dr. Shelley is highly regarded for her extensive research and writing contributions to scholarly journals. She has published several books in collaboration with her late dermatologist husband, Dr. Walter B. Shelley, as well as on her own. In addition, Dr. Shelley has pursued a successful career as a children’s book author, with several of her books available in multiple translations.
Aside from her career achievements, Dr. Shelley has received various accolades, including the Rose Hirschler Award and the Walter B. Shelley MD Leadership Award. She was also named an honorary member of the American Academy of Dermatology in 2009. Dr. Shelley has been featured in multiple editions of Who’s Who of American Women and Who’s Who in America.
Dr. Shelley attributes her professional advancement to the mentorship of dermatology professor Philip C. Anderson, along with the support and inspiration from her late husband. She also values the friendships she has made through her memberships in various dermatological associations.
