Elon Musk recently revealed his plans to challenge the artificial intelligence dominance of tech giants such as Alphabet Inc. (GOOG, GOOGL) and Microsoft Corporation (MSFT) by introducing a “third horse” to the competition. Speaking at The Wall Street Journal’s CEO Council Summit, Musk expressed his intentions to establish a significant presence in the AI ecosystem by introducing a competitor to Google and Microsoft.
Musk hinted at the possibility of incorporating various parts of his corporate empire, including his Twitter acquisition ($44 billion in October 2022), into his ambitious AI venture. He also suggested that Twitter could partner with Tesla Inc. (TSLA) in developing his AI business.
Musk is proposing the formation of an independent oversight committee consisting of leaders from the industry to provide insights about what these companies are up to. While he acknowledges the advanced state of AI development in the US and Europe, he highlighted China as a close rival with the resources to scale and optimize.
Previously, Musk had proposed taking control of OpenAI, the company he co-founded in 2015, but the proposal was turned down by fellow co-founders and others. Despite calling for an immediate pause in AI development, more powerful than OpenAI’s GPT-4, he is preparing to launch his AI-powered chatbot called TruthGPT.
