According to the New York Post, the recent launch of Elon Musk’s Starlink satellites caused UFO concerns among residents of New Jersey.
On Saturday night, locals were startled when they saw several lights moving in a straight line across the sky, leading to speculations about possible extraterrestrial activity.
Following the latest series of congressional hearings on unidentified flying objects, social media platforms were flooded with theories about alien objects.
However, the mystery was quickly solved when SpaceX announced that the lights were actually the newest batch of Starlink satellites, launched from Cape Canaveral, passing overhead.
This is not the first time Starlink satellites have caused confusion. Earlier this year, a study found a surge in UFO sightings since the beginning of the pandemic, which was linked to SpaceX’s satellite launches.
Starlink, which launched its first set of satellites in May 2019, currently has over 3,000 satellites in orbit and plans to increase that number to over 10,000 by 2027.
