American singer Taylor Swift is currently having a great year, with a massive sold-out tour and singles topping the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Not only is she one of the most popular contemporary musicians, but she’s also moving up the list of wealthiest self-made women, surpassing one of the most significant female musicians of all time.
So, what’s happened for Swift to make such a great leap financially? Her 2023 tour, called ‘Eras,’ has garnered immense success, with the resale value of tickets skyrocketing in value. Parents are even paying thousands of dollars to buy tickets as gifts for their children. This demand has led to the Ticketmaster website crashing, with its parent company Live Nation Entertainment earning some backlash from fans, members of Congress, and even US President Joe Biden.
Though the tour’s revenue has not been tallied yet, Forbes recently updated its list of the Richest Self-Made Women, which sees Swift rake in a fortune of $740 million. This figure has grown significantly from the $570 million she had accumulated the year before, pushing Swift past Madonna and into second place in the list of richest female musicians.
On the same list, Swift only trails after Rihanna, who tops the list with a net worth of $1.4 billion thanks to her beauty and fashion brands such as Fenty Beauty and Savage x Fenty. The list features the music industry’s most successful female entrepreneurs and artists, with Beyonce, Celine Dion, Dolly Parton, and Barbra Streisand behind Swift and Rihanna, respectively.
Despite ranking high in the list, Swift has a considerable way to go to catch up with Rihanna, who is already a billionaire and the youngest member on the Forbes list at the age of 33. Rihanna’s other business ventures have undoubtedly contributed tremendously to her wealth accumulation, as Fenty Beauty alone is a 50-50 joint venture between Rihanna and fashion conglomerate LVMH.
Topping the Richest Self-Made Women’s list is Diane Hendricks, the wealthiest self-made woman with a net worth of $15 billion. She owns both Hendricks Holding Company and ABC Supply, the nation’s biggest roofing, and vinyl siding wholesale distributor.
Swift’s recent financial successes have earned her some titles, such as being the third youngest self-made woman on the Forbes list and the second wealthiest self-made female musician worldwide. Given her continued popularity and success in music, she is entirely capable of climbing that list even further in the coming years.
Swift’s success is no surprise, given her dominance in the contemporary music scene. She has even made history by becoming the first artist to have all of the top ten rankings on the Billboard Hot 100 chart simultaneously, thanks to the successful release of her 2022 album, ‘Midnights.’ Additionally, she has been releasing re-recordings of her earlier albums to regain the rights to her music, dominating album and sales charts in the process.
