Dr. Gurmukh Singh is the Walter L. Shepeard Chair of Clinical Pathology and the Vice Chairman of Clinical Affairs at the Augusta University Medical College of Georgia, where he has been appointed since 2014.

Besides, Dr. Singh served as a chief medical officer and professor of pathology, clinical affairs at the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System and the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine between 1978 to 2006, prior to joining the faculty of Augusta University.
Dr. Singh pursued his education at the Armed Forces Medical College in Pune, India, earning Doctor of Medicine in 1971. Afterwards, he moved to New York to undertake his Pathology residency at Mount Sinai Beth Israel Icahn School of Medicine, completing it in 1974. Additionally, he obtained a Ph.D. in Experimental Pathology from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in 1977, and fulfilled his residency in Pathology in 1978. Dr. Singh also earned a Master of Business Administration from the University of Pittsburgh Katz Graduate School of Business in 1998.
Dr. Singh is licensed to practice medicine and board certified in clinical and anatomic pathology and immunopathology in six states – Georgia, Kansas, Missouri, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and California. He is affiliated with various professional organizations like the American Association for Clinical Chemistry, the College of American Pathologists, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology, the American Society for Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics, and the Academy of Clinical Laboratory Physicians and Scientists, among others. He has written more than 150 peer-reviewed articles and contributed to various book chapters and scholarly publications.
Dr. Singh has been the recipient of numerous awards, including the Gold Award for Outstanding Contribution to Science, the Silver Star Award, and the Applause Award. Moreover, he has been ranked number one by HealthTap Inc., both as a doctor and pathologist. Dr. Singh takes pride in mentoring undergraduate students and residents in his field and finding federal funding for over 15 grants. The discovery of two novel genes in the lung and identifying a subtype of multiple myeloma are some of his significant contributions to his field.
Dr. Singh attributes his innate abilities to his success in his professional life and his father, who was a high school teacher and emphasized the importance of education. As he looks forward, Dr. Singh aims to continue his clinical research in multiple myeloma to discover innovative treatment options and further knowledge. Additionally, he plans to write a book on Punjab, India.
