Leveraging more than two decades of excellence in forensic mental health, crisis intervention, and criminal justice, Dr. Butler is the owner of Blue Line Wellness. Since 2021, she has focused on developing responsive programs and trainings to support law enforcement, aiming to make the topic of wellness and mental health services more normalized. Additionally, she proudly serves as a director at the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, developing and overseeing their Health & Wellness Program. She is also a valued member of the Association of Threat Assessment Professionals.
Prior to establishing her company, Dr. Butler began her career as a psychiatry technician for Strong CPEP in 1998 and was a primary therapist with Evelyn Brandon in 2002. She subsequently functioned as a crisis co-coordinator and therapist for Rochester Mental Health as well as a psychiatric assignment officer for RGH CIU from 2005 until 2007. Following this period, she was a social worker for Veterans Affairs until becoming a forensic mental health therapist for the Livingston County Jail in 2008. In 2010, she joined the Monroe County OMH as a manager of AOT and was promoted to the chief of clinical and forensic services in 2016. She also served as a social worker with the Fairport Police Department from 2021 until 2023.
Among her professional accomplishments, Dr. Butler was honored with a Community Service Award from the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) in 2016. The same year, she also received a Distinguished Service Award from the Federal Bureau of Investigation. In 2022, she received a Civilian of the Year Award from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office for her stellar work supporting law enforcement. She is most proud to have made the concept of wellness within county law enforcement in Monroe County an open topic for discussion, enabling individuals to reach out for help when they need it rather than turning to self-harm or suicide.
Prior to embarking on her professional journey, Dr. Butler earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology in 1997 and a Master of Science in Human Development in 1998, both from the University of Rochester. Following these achievements, she attained a Master of Social Work from Nazareth University in 2006 and a Doctor of Philosophy in Psychology, Public Policy, and Law from Alliant International University in 2022.
Within the coming years, Dr. Butler intends to expand Blue Line Wellness throughout the state, employing and training more clinicians to work collaboratively with law enforcement officers. This will allow her clients to be seen in less than 24 hours, ensuring they are treated promptly and correctly.
