Patrick St Clair has been appointed as Hockey Director of the Frederick Freeze. As part of his new role, he will manage and oversee the development and operations of the organization. This includes player and skill development, team and coach management, and membership growth. The previous incumbent, Tommy Demers, who served as Hockey Director since 2014, announced his departure in early 2023.
As the new Hockey Director, St Clair will utilize his experience to advance the development of players and teams within the Frederick Freeze. His responsibilities will include strategic training programs implementation, fostering a positive team environment, and promoting the overall growth of the organization.
Greg Dale, President of the Frederick Freeze, said, “We are pleased to welcome Patrick St Clair to our organization as the Hockey Director. His commitment to player development and enthusiasm for the sport will be instrumental in driving the growth and success of our hockey program.”
St Clair will mark the start of his tenure by leading several hockey skills clinics during the summer season, as well as participating in various community events where he can meet and engage with players and their families.
About his new position, St Clair said, “Joining the Frederick Freeze as its Hockey Director is an incredible honor and for me, really brings my hockey career full circle. I am excited to work with the talented players, coaches, and staff to further elevate the program and strengthen our position within the hockey community.”
St Clair has close ties with the Frederick Youth Hockey Association and the local hockey community. He initiated his hockey journey playing for the Frederick Phantoms and Frederick Fury, both of which were previous aliases of the Frederick Youth Hockey Association. He subsequently joined the Washington Litle Capitals Tier-I “AAA” hockey program before playing high school hockey with the Linganore Lancers, followed by junior hockey with the Frederick Freeze. During his time with the Freeze, he served as the team captain, received numerous league all-star recognitions, and emerged as a leading scorer.
St Clair continued his dedication to hockey at Towson University, where he acted as the captain of the Towson Tigers (ACHA D-1 club) and secured the 2013 ECHA League Championship. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Sports Management from Towson University’s College of Business and Economics in 2013.
When he finished playing, St Clair returned to Frederick and served as an assistant coach for the Frederick Freeze USPHL Junior hockey team from 2014 to 2016. He was instrumental in player recruitment, skill development, and guiding the team to its first USPHL playoff appearance. St Clair subsequently became an assistant coach for the Frederick Freeze youth hockey program, serving until 2019.
Following a regional search, St Clair was chosen and approved by the Frederick Freeze Board of Directors in May 2023 and will assume his Hockey Director role effective June 1, 2023. St Clair will also continue to thrive in his current career as the Area Sales Manager – Northern Maryland for The AZEK Company, a leading wholesale building materials specialist. He and his wife Nicole live in the Lake Linganore neighborhood in New Market, Maryland, with their children Natalie (6), Julia (5), and Brooks (2).
