Leveraging her more than 30 years of excellence in illustration, Ms. Zarate is renowned as a freelance illustrator with the Costume Designer Guild. Since 2000, her focus has been on jobs within the fashion industry. She is also a valued member of the Custom Designers Guild.
Throughout her illustrious career, Ms. Zarate worked collaboratively on “To Wong Foo Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar,” in film media with a custom designer. She also contributed fashion sketches to large productions for Katy Perry and Michael Jackson. Additionally, she provided caricature illustrations for the Flintstones cartoon brand.
Aside from being a freelance illustrator, Ms. Zarate served as an instructor of fashion illustration for the Otis College of Art and Design since 1984. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in history and philosophy from the University of California at Fullerton. Her passion for fashion illustration started at an early age when she began drawing sketches at four years old. A professor encouraged her to pursue this passion, and she broke into the industry working with a privately-owned school.
In the coming years, Ms. Zarate plans to reduce her teaching commitment to once a week or retire. She is a focused and determined individual who is resilient by nature and happy to have learned and taught about her passions.
Ms. Zarate is married to David Mudgway, and they have a son, Graham Mudgway.
