GO Topeka announced an expansion of its Choose Topeka Relocation Incentive, offering up to $15,000 to new residents, recent graduates of Washburn University, Veterans, and “boomerang” residents seeking to return to the metro. The incentive is available for home purchases or childcare-related expenses if the recipient works in person for a local company. The initiative is crucial in supporting area employers, boosting the region’s booming economy, and addressing a low unemployment rate.
The incentives are obtainable by those working for a participating Shawnee County employer with a minimum salary requirement of $50,000 per year. The revamped Choose Topeka program is responsive to the needs of both employers and incoming talent.
The new initiative follows the success of the 2020-2022 Choose Topeka Relocation Incentive, which enabled 99 individuals to move to Topeka, with 75% working for Topeka-based companies. The average salary of those moving was $89,000 per year, which is 19% higher than the national average. In the initiative’s first year alone, those who moved generated a $3.9 million economic impact in the region.
